There are many variations of this dish, this just happens to be how my mom did it, and it was a very popular dish, loved by all, comforting, delicious and very satisfying.

  1. Peel and slice the potatoes into thin circles. Half bake the potatoes in the oven at 375 ℉ (190 ℃) for about 20 minutes.
  2. Place the minced meat in a deep mixing bowl, wash and chop the parsley, chop the bell pepper, mince the garlic, finely chop the onion, add them all to the bowl, continue adding, ground allspice, and salt, mix them in really well, add the egg and breadcrumbs. mix well again, set the kafta mixture aside.
  3. Peel and slice the tomatoes, slice the eggplants without peeling and put it aside.
  4. Grease the oven dish with oil, place the eggplant rounds on the bottom of the oven dish, spread the kafta mixture across the dish, on top of the eggplants, add the sliced and half baked potatoes on top of the meat, and top with tomato slices. 
  5. Mix the tomato and pepper paste with water and pour enough to cover all the ingredients. Season with salt and pepper. 
    Cover and bake the kafta at 350 ℉ for about 45 minutes, uncover and continue cooking for another 15 to 20 minutes.
